Muharram. The Muslim festival of mourning. Shias ,Sunnis and Shiites alike commemorate this occasion,which marks the martyrdom of Hussein Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
The period of mourning is on the 10th day of the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Huge processions are brought out, where the display of arms is visible. It is the custom to mourn for Hussein Ali,the martyr, and to carry out ritual fasting.
Given the Hindu- Muslim sensitivity, it is not surprising to see the huge police deployment, which includes the DySP of Ranchi.
